Natural Catastrophe Risk Insurance Mechanisms for Asia and the Pacific:Main Report
When a marketing rep comes into your office or someone from the management team and tells you to ´´sell the value´´, how often do you find yourself rolling your eyes? As a former agency owner and now a consultant, I often find myself spouting the same slogan. Why? Because, I have done it and done it quite successfully. Whenever a rep came into my office and told me to sell the value of carrier X, I would think that’s something an expensive company would say or an overpriced company, because what else could they say? We’ve officially entered a hard market cycle in California on the personal lines side, which is strange to even say.The market has tightened up and many carriers are non-renewing or reducing underwriting appetite to not take on a lot of new business in California. This is why I started writing in 2014 and again in 2017, 2018 and 2019. In my estimation our industry is going to see a massive shift over the next three or four years. A shift from judgement underwriting to block chain and data underwriting. Artificial intelligence has already been underwriting, selling and handling claims for smaller insure-tech companies for the past four years. This is a prevalent trend in our industry. But, why? Why? Because, we have shifted our focus from selling peace of mind to selling a price. Why? Because, we have put more value on talking about premium, payments and price, than having hard conversations about protecting assets and families. We have shifted hard on price, and almost every insurance company has followed suit in their marketing efforts. Almost exclusively every billboard, social media ad and print ad espouses X insurance carrier savings you up to 25-43 percent on your insurance per year. The conversation has shifted in a way that will cannibalize our industry and wrongfully set expectations for consumers.A recent study by insurancequotes.com found that around 80 percent of consumers self-report in blind surveys that con 1. The year is 2071. It is very recognizable world, only now the United States has implemented a wide-scale, government-run cloning program that is tied directly to health insurance. Each U.S. citizen has a ´´copy” living separately in a cleared zone in the Midwest. If an ´´original” is sick or injured and requires surgery, whatever he or she needs is taken from their clone. In the two decades since the program’s inception, no person outside the government has ever seen their copy or been inside the Clearances, and no clone has ever successfully escaped—until now. The Bradbury Report is a fascinating meditation on the worst and the best that we are capable of as a race and society. It is a powerful work of speculative fiction, beautifully written, about love, identity, free will, aging, and intelligence that will linger with you long after listening. 1. Language: English. In this urgently important book, Zelnick looks past the good intentions to how affirmative action really works in such areas as voting rights, employment, minority set-asides, mortgage and insurance regulation, and education. Buttressing his case with the latest research data and scores of real-life examples, Zelnick shows overwhelmingly that affirmative action: favors the less qualified over the more qualified; endangers public safety in such areas as crime and fire prevention, and even medical care; has made it all but impossible for business and government to use objective merit selection criteria in hiring and promotion; brings few benefits to those most in need of help, and benefits mostly those who don´t need it; distracts from - and even exacerbates the real causes of misery among inner city blacks; has developed powerful constituencies in business and government; has been broadened for political purposes to include beneficiaries who want relief but lack the historical claim of blacks; legitimizes negative stigmas about minorities and pandering to the darker instincts of racial animosity; and as an ideology has proven immune to conclusive evidence that it is counterproductive. Zelnick traces how affirmative action was first sold as a short-term program designed to expand employer awareness of qualified minority job applicants, but instead has become a coercive network of race-conscious laws, regulations, quotas, preferences, and entitlement programs - in short, an assault on the very value of equality of opportunity it was supposed to promote. Zelnick also shows how affirmative action is increasingly being challenged in the courts and political arena. He concludes with an in-depth, behind the-scenes report on the affirmative action battles now raging in California, whose outcomes will have major consequences nationwide, and for years to come. 1. Barbara Ehrenreich´s first book of satirical commentary, The Worst Years of Our Lives, which was about the Reagan era, was received with best-selling acclaim. The one problem was the title: couldn´t some prophetic fact-checker have seen that the worst years of our lives - far worse - were still to come? Here they are, the 2000s, and in This Land Is Their Land, Ehrenreich subjects them to the most biting and incisive satire of her career.Taking the measure of what we are left with after the cruelest decade in memory, Ehrenreich finds lurid extremes all around. While members of the moneyed elite can buy congressmen, many in the working class can barely buy lunch. While a wealthy minority obsessively consumes cosmetic surgery, the poor often go without health care for their children. And while the corporate C-suites are now nests of criminality, the less fortunate are fed a diet of morality, marriage, and abstinence.Ehrenreich´s antidotes are as sardonic as they are spot-on: pet insurance for your kids; Salvation Army fashions for those who can no longer afford Wal-Mart; and boundless rage against those who have given us a nation scarred by deepening inequality, corroded by distrust, and shamed by its official cruelty. 1. Every time you take out your credit card and put it to use, your purchase, as well as how and when you pay it off, will contribute to your credit score. The credit score is not just another number that you can afford to not take seriously. Too many people fail to realize that in the future, when they want to purchase big ticket items such as houses, their credit score will have a major say whether this goes ahead or stalls. A low credit score, among other things, will block you from being able to purchase your desired item or make things a lot more difficult for you by compelling the financial institution you approach to attach higher-than-average interest rates, or insist that you clear up your credit in a shorter period. Surely, this is in no way an ideal situation, or is it? A high credit score, on the other hand, makes things a lot easier. Buying a house, for instance, becomes less complicated. You will be able to buy your item smoothly without having absurd interest rates attached, or have to pay off your credit amount in a short time window. Simply put, a healthy credit score will make your financial life easier. If your credit score is nothing close to being good, you can agree with me that accessing credit and other financial services is never easy. Banks, insurance companies, and even some employers these days check your credit score to determine how much to charge for various products and for various other purposes. This essentially means that having your credit score as high as possible should be top on your priority list, especially if you have any hopes of accessing credit or using various other financial services. This book is there for you; it will help you to understand how to improve your credit by having different items that may be hurting your score removed. Get this audiobook now and let’s begin. 1.
